Providing a link between strategy and operations

To maximise the benefit from any software solution, it’s essential that the front-end tools used for information access, analysis, and reporting are easy to understand and use. To make it easy for our clients create, maintain and share both strategic and operational information, we maximise the usage of the Microsoft Office System as the integral front-end component of the Microsoft BI Platform. This allows us to quickly and cost effectively produce solutions that are entirely configurable. It also inherently provides system familiarity to everyone within the organisation without extensive training or intensive system administration.

The standardised integration of Microsoft Products enables us to deliver powerful solutions that provide clients with:

Improved employee and organisational productivity with powerful analytical, collaboration, and visual tools
Reduced complexity in managing business metrics, and in creating dynamic reports
A comprehensive, configurable and scaleable solution that integrates easily with existing business systems and processes on the .NET Framework, utilising XML and Web Services.
Unlimited creation of Performance Management metrics across any organisational level, based on a centralised security model.

The flexibility is such that solutions are created to accommodate any number of metrics and reports for users at any organisational level, distributing information and performance to everyone who needs it as and when they need it. The Microsoft Balanced Scorecard Framework provides an integrated set of tools from a variety of Microsoft packaged applications and industry standards to automate the Balanced Scorecard solution. This Framework is based fully on the B alanced Scorecard methodology, which is a system of linked objectives, measurements, targets, and initiatives that collectively communicate and measure an organisation’s business strategy. When implemented effectively, it can help to translate into clear, measurable objectives, which provide:

The illustration of goals
The prioiitisation of initiatives
The communication of business strategies

Our areas of expertise include:

Strategy Maps

Strategy Maps paired with the Balanced Scorecard methodology offer a new way to manage strategic alignment. They offer a visual means of quickly communicating information, goals and expectations to the organisation, helping to close the gap between strategic business expectations and required business action.

The financial perspective describes the tangible outcomes of the strategy in traditional financial terms. Measures like ROI, shareholder value, profitability, revenue growth, and cost per unit are the "lag indicators," or outcomes, that indicate whether the organization's strategy is succeeding or failing. The customer perspective defines the value proposition for targeted customers. This proposition provides the context for how intangible assets, such as human resources and IT, create value.

The Microsoft Strategy Map Builder uses Visio, which provides a familiar interface from which to build and maintain detailed strategy maps. These can include weightings, measures and relationship links for all objectives. The visual indicators within the strategy maps are driven by actual data, and are the starting point for the KPI creation.

Scorecards

Scorecards provide a visual representation of standard key performance indicators (KPI’s), displaying metrics on how the enterprise is performing against planned values, actions and progress.

Microsoft derived Business Scorecards support both the Balanced Scorecard methodology and custom-built scorecards, by providing a means for consolidating analytical data from multiple sources. The helps businesses to measure, monitor, and manage departmental performance across a range of relational databases, spreadsheets and legacy systems.

Scorecards can be displayed in both Microsoft Excel and SharePoint, providing detailed analysis through the use of familiar desktop tools.

Dashboards

Dashboards are no longer just for executives. Operations managers, business line managers also need visibility to their business activities in an easy to use interface.

Dashboard displays provide highly visual representations of performance, by integrating information into a single graphical display. Dashboards are designed to deliver summary information for fast, simple overviews so that executives and decision-makers can quickly review business statues, progress, comparisons, and trends. Dashboards can be graphically customised to suit any requirements, any user type and can be both interactive and static in nature.

The usage of SharePoint makes the creation of dashboard displays quick, easy and cost effective for conveying internal and client information.

Configuration can include simple traffic light systems, which any user in the organisation can have access to for monitoring performance. Configurable alerts can be included in personalised screens, providing graphical visibility to each level of the organisation. This provides managers with a clear summarised view of organisation performance.

Through simplified configuration, we can use Microsoft’s Dashboard Manager to quickly build personalised dashboards and rapidly deploy them across the organization.
